There is nothing like the steady rumble of a GP40-2 engine plus the tell-tale high pitched sound of the Leslie air horns. Combine that with seeing something like this coming down the street, and you may feel like you are in the Conrail heydays of the 80's or 90's. This is a rather rare opportunity to see a train other than a coal drag running through West Brownsville. They were all covered hoppers. This engine is former Conrail 3347 built March 1979. Former Monongahela Railway Freight Depot |
Description: |
In Brownsville, Pa not far from the much larger Union (passenger) Station. The Monongahela Railway was a shortline jointly controlled by the PRR, B&O, and P&LE Railroads, as odd as that sounds. It ceased to exist when it was merged into Conrail in 1993. Now that Conrail no longer exists either, the railroad behind this building is the NS Loveridge Secondary. |
