Album Info:These are mostly fair quality older b&w photos of Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific 2-8-2 Mikados built by Alco-Brooks and Alco-Schenectady in the 1920's. Of the nearly 240 2-8-2's built for the Rock Island Line, none have survived - all were sold for scrap.

Description:  This is an Alco-Schenectady builder's photo of Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific 2-8-2 #2688 built in April of 1927. Specs - 63" drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine wt of 355,600 lb and tractive effort of 68,227 lb. With an added booster, the te increased by 11,244 lb. The loco was retired and sold for scrap in February of 1953 after 26 years of service.

Description:  This loco has the dubious honor of being the very last 2-8-2 Mikado ever built for the rock Island Line. Alco-Schenectady assembled it in April fo 1927. Sadly, none of the 240+ Mikados have survived. Specs - 63" drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine wt of 355,600 lb and tractive effort of 68,227 lb. With an added booster, the te increased by 11,244 lb and when it was converted to an oil burner, the engine weight became 350,500 lb. The loco was retired and sold for scrap in October of 1952 after 25 years of service. This is an R.H. Carlson photo.

Description:  This was one of approximately 240 2-8-2 Mikados on the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific roster. Built by Alco-Brooks in June of 1926, this loco was a central player in both passenger and freight service. Specs - K-64b, 63" drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine wt of 355,000 lb and tractive effort of 68,227. With a booster added the te went up 11,244 lb more. The loco was retired and sold for scrap in October of 1952 after nearly 26 years of service. No date was given for the phoot which was taken by R.H. Carlson.
