ATSF 133 |
Description: |
Decked out in Bicentennial colors for use in the short train operated from Richmond, California, to Richmond, Virginia, in 1972, is Santa Fe steam generator car 133. This car was built using ATSF baggage car 3922 (Pullman-Standard) as a starting point. Photographed in Barstow, California, on November 15, 1972, this train consisted of Seaboard Coast Line U36B 1776, ATSF 133, ATSF display car 87 and Frisco caboose 1776. The cars were all painted to match the SCL's engine, which had the distinction of being the first of many, many pieces of railroad equipment painted for the American Bicentennial. |

SP 7347 |
Description: |
the Southern Pacific Railroad was an official sponsor of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California. As such, they promoted the Games with a special paint scheme applied to SD40R 7347 (the former SD40 8479) and a fleet of 45 "Golden Pig" highway trailers. This colorful engine was assigned as a helper, along with red and orange SD40R 7342 (ex-SD40 8470), in southern California when former Southern Pacific "Daylight" 4-8-4 4449 was heading west on its way back from New Orleans, Louisiana, where the 1984 Worlds Fair was taking place. The two engines are seen in Loma Linda after cutting off the "Worlds Fair Daylight" had completed its crossing of nearby Beaumont Hill on June 17th, 1984. Note the gold-painted P-3 air horn and the "1932" and 1984" numberboards, which commemorated not only the 1984 Olympics, but also the Games other occurrence in Los Angeles in 1932. |

INRD 4002 - Jasonville IN - 09/29/17 |
Description: |
Indiana Railroad has repainted SD40-2 4002 and included a logo thanking First Responders on its long hood. The engine, coupled to SD40-2 4006, is seen at the railroads Hiawatha Yard in Jasonville, Indiana, on September 29, 2017. Due to a heavy workload at the EMD factory in Illinois, this locomotive was built by EMDs Canadian subsidiary GMD in July 1980 for the Burlington Northern Railroad. BN 7234 became Burlington Northern Santa Fe 7234 in 1995, when the BN merged with the Santa Fe. BNSF sold it to the Indiana Railroad, where it became their INRD 42. The INRD recently began renumbering their SD40-2s into the 4000-series. (Photographed on railroad property with permission and full PPE.) |

JBC Rail Services GP40-2 3030 sits under a spectacular midwestern sky as it shows off its recently applied "Support Our Troops" paint job. This engine was originally built by EMD in May 1978 as Conrail 3329, later becoming Norfolk Southern 3030. Now working for JBC Rail Services, this engine has retained its NS number but acquired a new reporting mark - JBCX. (Kingsbury, Indiana – September 25, 2021) |
