IC Transfer Run |
Description: |
Illinois Central SW9 442 was on a westbound (timetable north) transfer run at EAST BRIDGE JUNCTION as it approached the ICG’s MAYS YARD just west of New Orleans. In the background, on the right of the train, was EAST BRIDGE TOWER, which controlled the tracks around the east end of the Huey P. Long Bridge. The 442 had been built in June 1951 as IC 9442, was renumbered in 1959 and was rebuilt into ICG SW14 1481 in 1981. (approximate date of photo) |

Illinois Central Gulf DOCK JOB |
Description: |
When this photo was taken, the Illinois Central Gulf’s DOCK JOB ran from the railroad’s MAYS YARD, on the west side of New Orleans, to its STUYVESANT DOCKS YARD, along the Mississippi River. Here was the train on a gloomy afternoon, on its way to the docks with a couple of Lamco Railroad SD10 units right behind IC SW9 442. Lamco 315 and 316 were originally Union Pacific SD7’s and had just been rebuilt by the ICG’s Paducah Shops for LAMCO - the Liberian-American-Swedish Mining Co. They were exported to Buchanan, Liberia from New Orleans. |
