Title:
LERR (L&A) 2-8-2 563
Description:
The newest locomotives on the Louisiana & Arkansas were Mikados 561-565, built by Lima in August 1936 at a cost of $60,810.26 each. In January 1952 Paulsen Spence purchased the 562, 563 and 565 for $5800 each to use on his Louisiana Eastern, but none were ever restored. Mr. Spence died on 31 October 1961, about nine months after this photo was made of Louisville & Nashville fireman Ken Marsh inspecting the 563. Twenty-nine locomotives – including the 563 – were scrapped here between September and December 1962.
