SLSF 4-6-4 #1066 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco) |
Description: |
The cosmetic wide valence above the running gear on both sides that had "The Frisco Lines" enclosed in a long red diamond was added as an upgrade. Its tender was also emblazoned with similar livery, except that the red diamond embraced the engine's number. Later it would be removed as the loco aged. This great looking 4-6-4 Hudson actually started out as a 4-6-2 Pacific built by Baldwin, in April of 1917 as SLSF 4-6-2 #1066. The loco was rebuilt by West Springfield Shops in 1937. This loco was scrapped in December of 1951. Hudson specs - serial #45512, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. No date, location or photographer was listed for this photo so approximates were usedc. |
