Sadly missing its bell and number plate, this Chicago & North Western class E 4-6-2 Pacific #581 has been lined out and now sits in the scrap line at Sterling, IL awaiting the scrapper's torch. Built by Alco-Schnectady in April fo 1913, it served for nearly 43 years before reaching this last sad moment. In 1952, it was renumbered 581. No exact scrapping date was given. Specs - class E, 75" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt 261,000 lb, tractive effort of 36,700 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
