This was about a month an a half after the Rock Island seized operations. I believe the Rock Island "The Rock" lettering was patched by the Missouri Pacific, who now owned these locomotives. Probably patched with Dark Eagle Blue before they could paint the entire locomotive into Dark Eagle Blue, but there aren't any pictures of it in Dark Eagle Blue that I can find so I don't know if they patched them and then later painted them into Armour Yellow after the Union Pacific takeover of 1983 or if they painted them into Dark Eagle Blue then into Armour Yellow later into the 1980s. At the time of this photo these locomotives were owned by the Missouri Pacific. The patches look to be the Missouri Pacific's signature blue.
