This car is setting on the old Bucksport Main Line that was originally laid at broad or 5' gauge in the early 1870s. A couple years later it was gauged to 3 foot when the E&NA bought the Bucksport & Bangor. When MECs lease began about 1880 it was converted to standard gauge.. As of late summer 2010 this particular track was out of service & PAR was making up trains on the siding in the foreground which was laid on new ground on the edge of the Penobscot River about 1965. /DL |
