Sunset Over The Willamette and Oregon Electric Drawbridge
Originally built by the Oregon Electric Railway in 1910 (making it 103 years old at the time of this picture), an interurban street-car railway in the early 20th century spanning a mainline from Portland to Eugene with many secondary lines. The line as a passenger run closed in May of 1933 due to competition from other modes of transportation but most of the mainline survived as a freight railroad. It was later purchased by BN and is still owned by BNSF but leased to PNWR. This picture was taken from Amtrak Cascades #507 from the fromer SP swing bridge at the same location, both are no longer operational, and both are impossible to get to except by train making them incredibly hard to photograph. The two lines parallel eachother directly from Eugene to Harrisburg.
