East Altoona. Here is an original photo by Walter "Bub" Carberry that was taken in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, sometime during the early 1950's. Shown here are two unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives near the Coaling Tipple, partially visible at the far right. Notable are the two "coast-to-coast" tenders and the water tank covered with icicles on what looks to be a very frigid day! Photo taken from the adjoining Westbound Receiving Yard. This photo was a gift to me from Mr. Carberry. He lived with his family on Bel Aire Road in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, and was a career railroader who served in those Yards for many years. |
