Looking toward Hall Ave at the former CNW station currently used by the CN. Marinette was a two railroad town, served by the Milwaukee Road and the CNW. The Escanaba and Lake Superior replaced the Milwaukee's presence in town. The CNW was replaced by the Union Pacific, very briefly, who in turn spun it off to the Wisconsin Central. The WC was then bought by the Canadian National, who still runs through town and works with the ELS. The ELS line to here from Crivitz is usually plugged with stored cars, yet the ELS keeps a switcher in the area (engine house located across the river in Menominee, MI) to work the industries. Sources indicate that the switching in Marinette and Menominee is mainly done by ELS crews, with the CN taking care of the incoming and outgoing traffic.
