| CN caboose, WC 16, rests on former MILW rails at Hilbert, WI on 18 Oct. '17. I was starting to worry about this caboose because I hadn't spotted it in its usual hiding places in Neenah, Menasha, or Oshkosh lately, so I was pleased to find it here. The former MILW depot is partially visible background left. The stop sign on the main line in the background is mounted on a gate which protects the former SOO main line at Hilbert Junction. The MILW main line used to continue on to Green Bay, WI and points beyond. The active rails currently end between Crosstown Rd. and Ott Rd., where Lund Construction occasionally receives a freight car. The remains of the right-of-way to Green Bay is the Fox River State Trail. |
