Here is a photo from a reprint of the November 1956 issue of "Modern Railroads" magazine, pages 14-15. Photo Caption: "Steam power is now used only in certain 'pockets' and then only when traffic is high." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6797, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works as an M-1A during 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in December of 1947, and retired in September of 1959. It's worth noting that this is the only steam locomotive depicted in the reprint. The location is an approximation. |
