Here is the eighth of eight original photos by an unidentified photographer that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5825, a BH-50 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as a BP-60 rated at 3,000 horsepower in May of 1947, later regeared and reclassified as a BH-50 rated at 2,500 horsepower, and retired in April of 1962 after just 15 years of revenue service. It ~ along with its unidentified semi-permanently-coupled mate ~ is being returned to East Altoona for further assignment after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin. |
