PRR 5825, BH-50, c. 1957
Here is the eighth of eight original photos by an unidentified photographer that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5825, a BH-50 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as a BP-60 rated at 3,000 horsepower in May of 1947, later regeared and reclassified as a BH-50 rated at 2,500 horsepower, and retired in April of 1962 after just 15 years of revenue service. It ~ along with its unidentified semi-permanently-coupled mate ~ is being returned to East Altoona for further assignment after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin.
