Mississippi River and Railroads
This bird’s-eye view was looking upstream along the east bank of the Mississippi River at river mile 101, next to Audubon Park in New Orleans. The two railroad tracks next to the right (east) side of the levee belonged to the New Orleans Public Belt and the other two were owned by the Illinois Central Gulf. The track running up the levee provided the NOPB access to the NASHVILLE AVENUE WHARF. This view is facing almost directly north, and Lake Pontchartrain can be seen in the far distance, seven miles away.
