Diridon Station in downtown San Jose was built in 1935, known then as Cahill Depot, and designed by John Christie, the same person who designed Union Station in Los Angeles. The depot was part of a 30 year plan to relocate the Coast Line away from the historic area of San Jose, replacing the Market Street Depot. In the 1990s, the depot was restored, complete with a platform for the VTA light rail system. The depot was renamed to Diridon Station, named after Rod Diridon, Santa Clara County Supervisorand founder of the California Trolley & Railroad Corporation, which has preserved and restored several historic streetcars. |
