PRR Westbound Freight, #2 of 2, c. 1948
AW. Here is the second of two successive images of photos by Arlington J. Wolfe that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1948. Prominent here are two unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives: a "J" Class (2-10-4) "Texas" and an "I" Class (2-10-0) "Decapod." In this context, they're pushing a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, whereupon they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignments. The names of the Crewmen riding the N-5C cabin car are not recorded. William E. Burket Collection.
