Twilight Outbound
As the sun sets, Caltrain 906 growls out of San Jose Diridon with another load of northbound commuters. The aging F40 has been serving the peninsula for nearly 40 years, having entered service in 1985. After 37 years of constant use, age is beginning to catch up to the old beasts. As evidenced by the catenary wires that have sprung up along the peninsula, the F40s are facing their final days, as the first of 19 7-car EMU sets begin to arrive. 906 will have two years at best before it will inevitably be retired. It is unknown if any of Caltrains 23 F40 models will be preserved.
