Originally built for the Manistique Railway (logging rr) as the "Grand Marais", it went through a couple of mergers and was eventually sold in 1925 to William Stephens. He had it rebuilt at the Great Northern's Jackson Street roundhouse. The car was cut in half and approximately 17 more feet were added to allow a second stateroom and crew's quarter to be installed. (See the floor plan below.) We walked through the Gopher taking pictures along the way starting at the left end of the schematic. The album shows the pictures in order as we walked through. |
