Album Info:Here are nine photos that were published originally in Mr. David W. Seidel's 2008 book entitled "Images Of Rail: Horseshoe Curve." They document both the installation and removal of Pennsylvania Railroad K-4S "Pacific" #1361 at the Curve, as well as its replacement via EFS-17M "GP-9" #7048. These locomotives were installed at the Horseshoe Curve to commemorate the skills and crafts, service and sacrifice of the thousands of men and women who worked for the PRR in Altoona and elsewhere from 1846 through 1968. Also included is one original color photo of PRR diesel-electric engine #7048.

Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5899 and two more E-8's whose numbers are not recorded. All are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5899 was built in March of 1951.

In this photo taken on 5 September 1985, it is waiting to be pushed up the mountain to the Horseshoe Curve to replace K-4S "Pacific" #1361 and, thereby, become the new commemorative locomotive. Photo taken just East of the 24th Street Bridge.

Description:  Here is an original 35mm color slide that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, during April of 1993. Shown here is former Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7048, an EFS-17M road switcher built by GM-EMD in December of 1955, rated a 1,750 horsepower, later owned by the Penn Central Railroad and Conrail, and finally enshrined at the Curve on 5 September 1985. The names of the photographer and the other folks pictured here are not recorded.
