Horseshoe Curve Commemorations, #9 of 9, 1985
Here is the ninth of nine photos that were published originally in David W. Seidel's 2008 book entitled "Images Of Rail: Horseshoe Curve," page 93. Shown here is former Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7048, an EFS-17M built by GM-EMD in December of 1955 and rated a 1,750 horsepower. In this photo taken on 5 September 1985, it is waiting to be pushed up the mountain to the Horseshoe Curve to replace K-4S "Pacific" #1361 and, thereby, become the new commemorative locomotive. Photo taken just East of the 24th Street Bridge.
