ACFX 85302
ACFX 85299-85302 were constructed under ACF Industries Lot No. 71-13576 in September 1969. The 26,600-gallons cars were built for the Shippers' Car Line Division of ACF and initially leased to Nalco Chemical Co. for motor fuel anti-knock compound (tetraethyl lead) service. They were originally painted blue with prominent Nalco lettering, but at least this one was repainted black with metric data. After the introduction of catalytic converters on most vehicles in the 1975 model year, the use of tetraethyl lead as a motor fuel additive steadily declined and these cars were retired by 1987. The car was photographed at the Illinois Central Gulf's NORTH BATON ROUGE YARD, near the Ethyl Corporation’s anti-knock compound plant.
